Allah said, "And establish the prayer and give the zakah"
O servants of Allah - how many of those who pray neglect the rights of the poor? And how many of those who give charity neglect praying to their Lord? Allah is not satisfied with you practicing only half of the religion, so bring the two halves together, thereby bringing together joy in both this life and the next.
The pairing of the prayer and the zakah throughout the Qur'an is not merely repetition. Rather, it is the foundation on which the religion is built. So whoever brings both together will rectify his heart and his society. But whoever divides them, his religion will be incomplete.
